International Adoption

Uganda Program

Though exact numbers are not available, according to the most recent estimates, there are approximately 2.5 million orphans in Uganda, over a million of whom were orphaned as a direct result of AIDS. In a country where the median age is only 15, as many as 1 in 6 children under the age of 17 is an orphan.

In 2011 Florida Home Studies and Adoption, Inc. began a pilot adoption program in Uganda. From its inception, the Uganda program has been viewed as a ministry born out of our commitment to follow Jesus’ command to take care of the orphans of the world.

FHSA has partnered with a respected Ugandan law firm and with a number of authorized Babies Homes in the country to develop an adoption program where it is our goal to locate Christian families for orphaned and abandoned children. In the short time that we have been working in Uganda, we have seen the Lord do miracle after miracle as children have been joined with their forever families.

Available Children

There is a need for families for boys and girls including infants, toddlers and older children. Parents must be prepared in every international adoption to parent a child with developmental delays and minor medical issues. With that being said, there are children available for adoption in Uganda who can be considered healthy, as well as children who have medical special needs.

Parent Eligibility

  • Families must be Christians who are active participants in a community of faith and who are committed to raising their children in their faith.
  • Married couples and single women are eligible to adopt.
  • Prospective Adoptive Parents must be at least 25 years of age. There is no upper age limit, although parents over 50 will be encouraged to adopt an older child rather than an infant.
  • There are no limits regarding the number of other children in the family.
  • Prospective Adoptive Parents must be in good health.
  • Prospective Adoptive Parents must show that they are able to financially provide for a child.

Adoption Timeline

Families will complete a home study and put together their dossier with the assistance of the Uganda Program Director. The time from completion of dossier to the referral of a child is impossible to predict exactly, but generally referrals are made within six months. Once a referral is received, our goal is that families will travel to Uganda in less than eight weeks to meet their child and complete the legal process in Uganda.

For married couples, both parents must travel to Uganda for court and need to be prepared to stay in country for up to four weeks. Though there is a possibility that the process could proceed in less time, there is no guarantee of this and at least one of the parents must be able to stay for four weeks if needed.

Please contact us directly if you would like more information about our Uganda program. We would be delighted to speak with you in greater detail about the requirements and process, and will be happy to put you in touch with families who have already brought home their precious children from Uganda.

We Believe...

That children should be raised in families. Unfortunately many children’s biological families are unable, for a variety of reasons, to parent them. FHSA is committed to finding Christian families who will love these children.
