The Country
Nepal is located between China and India. It contains eight of the world’s ten highest peaks, including Mt. Everest the world’s tallest, which is located on the border of China.
Nepal is among the poorest and most under developed countries in the world. About 60 percent of the population lives below the poverty line.
The Children
Children of both sexes are available for adoption from Nepal. Infants, toddlers, and older children are available for adoption. Many of the children have been abandoned at the orphanage due to the death of one or both of their parents or because of extreme poverty. Sometimes very little information is known about the child's background, and birth dates are often estimated. For the people of Nepal, the children are a priority.
Parent Eligibility
Adoptive parents must be at least 30 years older than the child being adopted. Parents are required to be between the ages of 30 and 55 years old and married for a minimum of four years. Single women may adopt from Nepal and must be between 35 and 55 years old.
Please Note: Procedures for foreign adoption in Nepal are unpredictable and the Nepalese government requirements are not enforced uniformly. The Nepalese government frequently changes requirements with little notice.
Please see our agency information page for further guidelines.
Referral
Referral time is based on the age and sex of child requested. Currently, the estimated wait time for referrals is 6 to 12 months for infants. For older children that are waiting, the referral time can be shorter.
Travel
The family usually travels 6 to 7 months after accepting their referral. The stay in Nepal is usually about twelve business days. Depending on the orphanage, one or two trips may be required.
Families will be met at the airport by guides and will be assisted throughout their stay in Nepal by an experienced team of compassionate and caring adoption specialists. Assistance to families will be provided with travel arrangements, hotel accommodations and necessary appointments.
Post Adoption
You will be required to complete Post Adoption reports with your Social Worker when you return home with your child. In addition, Nepal requires annual letters until the child is 16 years of age.
